Before the permanent residents of Słodowa Island (Wyspa Słodowa), that is students, hikers and tourists, invade it after the winter break, city authorities are introducing changes that will significantly improve the conditions of relax and fun on the island.
The Municipal Green Areas Management Office (Zarząd Zieleni Miejskiej, ZZM) announced a tender for a company that will provide containers with toilets to the island. In the women's section there must be at least three toilets, two sinks, a hand dryer and a heater, while the male part shall be fitted with four urinals, toilet and sinks.
According to ZZM's plans, the toilets will be open from 10:00 am until 00:00 am in March, April and October, and from 9:00 am to 00:00 am when the weather is hot, from May to September.
The same company is to guarantee the service and protection of the toilets.
Events under special supervision
There are also changes in the requirements for the organisers of mass events on the Island.
"The organiser shall pay a return deposit for the cost of repairs in case of any damages", says Julia Wach from the Municipal Office (Urząd Miasta). "He is also responsible for cleaning the area during and after the event. Apart from Słodowa Island (Wyspa Słodowa), these would be adjacent areas, such as Piasek Island (Wyspa Piasek), Bielarska Island (Wyspa Bielarska), Bulwar Zienkiewicza, the entrance to Słodowa Island (Wyspa Słodowa) from Drobnera street along with Bulwar Słoneczny.
The season will start on March 21 on so-prepared Słodowa Island (Wyspa Słodowa). It's a tradition that on the first day of calendar spring, students of primary schools, gymnasiums and high schools spend time together at Odra River. It is where they celebrate Truant's Day.
Plans for open-air concerts and fun for kids
